Information for Purchasing Firearms

  1. To begin the process of purchasing a firearm, you must have a valid Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC), which are valid for 5 years. In order to receive the Certificate, you must take a 30-question firearms safety test. You must answer at least 23 questions correctly to receive a passing score. The Gun Shop offers the test for $25. The study guide can be found on the CA Department of Justice’s website here. If this link does not work, go to https://oag.ca.gov/firearms and search for “FSC”.
  2. You will need a valid REAL ID or Driver License. If your ID says “Federal Limits Apply” you will need a valid birth certificate or passport. If you are purchasing a handgun, you will need a second proof of residency, which can be a vehicle registration, utility bill, or rental agreement. They must be current and have your correct address.
  3. After choosing the firearm you want to purchase, you will begin the Dealers Record of Sale (DROS) process, which is your background check. This paperwork is $38.00 and will be added to the total cost of the firearm.
  4. The DROS paperwork will contain the window of time during which you may pickup your purchased firearm. The first day will be 10 days from the date your DROS paperwork was submitted and the last date will be 30 days from the DROS submission date. If you do not pickup your firearm after 30 days, you will have to reaccomplish the background check and pay another $38.00.

We offer a 60-day layaway with 25% of the total purchase price or $125.00 down, whichever is greater.
